7 Tips to Master Perfect Baby Flat Lay Photos

(c) tharasofian

Flat lay photos are the latest ‘in’ thing nowadays when you browse photo-based app such as Instagram. These photos look stunning, chic and classy. Trust us, it’s a great way to show off your favorites and current addiction – and in this case for us mommies and daddies – our adorable little ones! Don’t you agree?

Let’s follow these seven┬átips to master the perfect baby flat lay photos:

1. Use a white or suitable background (Quick tip: Use a white blanket/bed sheet/paper roll)

White is the most popular┬ábasic background. Its minimalist and fuss-free effect sets a very classic tone to your photo’s lay out.

2. Use natural day light (Quick tip: Take your photos near the window or any space with good natural lighting)

The best flat lay photos are taken in soft, natural day light. Try removing colorful or dark-colored objects around that may create unsightly shadows on your backdrop.

3. Dress up your baby (Quick tip: Choose a romper with cute prints and matching mittens and booties)

Your baby is the hero, i.e. focus of the photo so some thoughtful dressing up will score you excellent brownie points. Then, place your baby in the middle or on an angle towards a corner of the background that you’ve chosen.

4. Use baby-related props (Quick tip: Milestone cards, toys, plushies, teethers)

Yes, choose two or three of your baby’s favorite items and place them strategically on the background. But remember, less is more and your baby will stand out with fewer products surrounding him.

Have you seen these┬áSmilestone ‘Milestone Baby Cards’ (45 Cards) on our website? A must-have for parents, these 45 milestone baby cards come in a solid, beautifully designed box to capture your baby’s growth and developments! You can buy these milestone baby cards here.

5.┬áNeat is the key (Quick tip: Make space and don’t overlap your objects)

Yes, a neatly themed flat lay photo seems to attract more buzz than one that looks chaotic. So, just keep it simple and sweet. Again, less is more.

6. Shoot from above (Quick tip: Stand on a chair)

Just be careful with your balancing (don’t fall down!) and try to adjust your position so that you don’t block the┬ánatural light and┬ácreate┬áunwanted shadows in your photo.

7. Use a good camera phone (Quick tip: A camera phone with 8MP and above would do the trick just right)

Chuck the DSLR, well, you can still use it if you want to. But when it comes to babies, they may fuss if you’re taking too long to take your shots. So, a good camera phone will spare you from the agony.
